What is Laughter Yoga?
Laughter Yoga is simulated laughter combined with gentle breathing techniques. It is non-political, non-religious and non-competitive. There are no contortions, no need for any particular item of clothing or equipment. Anybody can do it--it is a body-mind approach to health and wellness aiming to promote peace through laughter. 
Medical research shows that even if you pretend to laugh or act happy, your body produces happiness chemicals. Laughing for no reason forces you to leave your comfort zone of the left brain and enter the world of the right brain. 
The breathing increases lung capacity thus enhancing oxygen supply to the body. Norman Cousins raised a lot of public awareness 30 years ago on the healing power of laughter and positive emotions.  He claimed that 10 minutes per day of belly rippling laughter gave him 2 hours of pain-free sleep when nothing else would help, even morphine. Read more about it in his book: Anatomy of an Illness.
